We are glad most people enjoyed this episode. I am Abby’s mother and I really thought hard about whether she should read it when she is only 12. But since she understood the story and was not upset by it, we went ahead. We know she made some mistakes, but overall I felt that Kitty would make some of the same mistakes when speaking.

That episode 11 was a darned nice story, and even a bit on the creepy side with Abby sounding like she’s about ten years old. Very entertaining anyways. Let’s have some more Union stories!

I’ve listened to several of your episodes at once, so I can’t remember if it was this one or not, but at the beginning two of you talk about going to summer school and the girl says her teacher is a “retard”. As someone who works with individuals who truly have mental retardation, I find this term extremely offensive. I’m sure it’s common and you didn’t mean to be offensive by using it in such a slang manner, but please be more careful. Being in the public eye and a role model to other kids (which you are by doing your podcast), please try to demonstrate sensitivity and that it’s not ok to use a slang term for mental deficiency to put someone down any more than it’s ok to use a racial slur.

Good job. Story was decent. I’ve heard several on Escape Pod, not to sure I like the Union, but that is a whole different topic.

Abby did a fairly good reading. A few words wrong here and there, but hey, I do the same thing recording. I’m sorry I don’t remember the intro guy’s name, but that guy, sometimes you slur words a bit and mumble, like I used to do, probably still do sometimes. Take an extra moment to say the words, no matter how excited for the story you are {;0)

Great work guys, for reals. I don’t keep a podcast on my iPod if I don’t dig it. If I pick at anything, it’s because I care enough to try and help.

I thought the story kind of pushed the limit of PG-13, and my only gripe about the narrator was the repeated mispronunciation of Minneapolis. Abby, it’s said “Mini apple ‘s’”. Fantastic story, fantastic characterization. I will be back and sharing this site with others. Starting with my young sons. Keep up the great work.
